Valley Laundry and Cleaners: The Who’s Who of the Laundry Biz
In 1998 Leonard Olson and LeRoy Aman began construction on a strip mall across Highway 95 from the Safeway shop-ping center in Fort Mohave (@ Aztec & Highway 95). This center is the home of City Wide Insurance, Auto Lenders of Fort Mohave, Cuts & Curls Salon and Valley Laundry & Cleaners. These gentlemen, with a combined Laundromat experience of 85 + years, planned to build the largest, most modern Laundromat facility in Mohave County. Within the Valley Center, 6,000 square feet of space was dedicated to the construction of Valley Laundry & Cleaners. When you visit the Fort Mohave store, you will agree they did what they set out to do.
When planning and constructing Valley Laundry & Cleaners, their main objective was the customer’s convenience and efficiency. With them in mind they built wide aisles between the washers and enough dryers so that customers never have to wait to dry their laundry. They also knew customers would want an assortment of washers. To satisfy everyone’s needs there are small top load washers and giant, large capacity, 75 lb washers. There are also extractors available to get your clothes, towels, rugs, and blankets almost dry to avoid the long time it would normally take to dry them.
This store was designed to accommodate the need for folding clothes with plenty of folding tables and room for moving around. There are enough roll-around baskets to assist in transferring your laundry from the washing machines to the dryers. The goal here was to make doing laundry a pleasure and not a chore. The biggest and most innovating item is the elimination of quarters. A card system was installed on each machine. With the system that Valley Laundry offers, it is quite simple. You apply a value onto a Valley laundry card that is similar to a credit card and then use the card to start washers, buy soap, use the extractors or the dryers.
When done, you may keep the card with credit still remaining for the next visit or let the friendly staff refund you any remaining credit with cash. As prices went up and the need to carry larger amounts of quarters, doing laundry became cumber-some. This system is magical. No quarters needed, which was the newest innovation at the time.
Today LeRoy handles the laundromat and maintains the equipment with help from an assistant who cares for customers needs, maintains cleanliness, does fluff and fold and specializes in laundering com-forters and other large items for customers who need this service. Alteration services are avail-able as well as wash & fold. Valley Laundry is now offering WiFi for those persons who like to multitask.
Come in and experience Valley Laundry & Cleaners, conveniently located at 4768 S. Highway 95, Fort Mohave. Meet the staff, LeRoy (the owner), Debbie (the manager), Kathy, and Tina who strive to make it the cleanest most usable laundry in the area. It’s worth your drive. Are you driving a large vehicle or motor home? Not a problem, there is lots of parking space in the rear of Valley Laundry & Cleaners with a rear entry for your convenience. A cheerful and clean environment is always the goal of Valley Laundry and Cleaners.

The Christmas Shoppe
Article written by Ashlyn Easley, Mohave High School Journalism Program
Being a visitor at The Three Stages Outlet you might see something surprising: a quaint holiday boutique located next door to them. Owned by Donna Duncan, this unique shop offers all the Christmas essentials: “We sell everything from fully decorated trees and handmade wreaths to gifts and wrapping paper,” she says.
Upon entering the wintry boutique, visitors are awestruck by beautiful holiday displays of miniature village scenes, snowmen, Santas, and a seemingly endless array of ornaments. Among these displays are pre-lit Christmas trees of various sizes, as well as custom wreaths. What’s even more stunning are the prices of these goods, which range from ten cents to $125. According to Donna, “We want to help customers save money and still have a nice Christmas.”
Besides having affordable prices, the shoppe also spreads holiday cheer by stuffing stockings for the homeless and selling See’s candies for the We Care Cancer Support Group. “We try to give back to the community when we can,” Donna says.
If you would like to experience the magic of this Christmas Shoppe boutique for yourself, you may visit the Three Stages at 833 Hancock Road. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 5pm and the Christmas Shoppe boutique will remain open until January 1st.
Donna and her family would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!
Rising From The Dirt, A Park To Be Proud Of!
The City of Bullhead City Parks & Recreation and Public Works Department have embarked on an exciting new plan to give a facelift to one Section 12, along the Colorado River. The previously unfinished area of land is adjacent to the south end of Bullhead City Community Park and was officially adopted into the park as a whole last year. Since that time, city work crews have worked hard to create some of the best beaches in town. However, beaches are just the beginning.
Adjacent to Highway 95 is a new 800 car parking area. Access to this lot has recently become easier thanks to the completion of Laughlin Ranch Blvd. The new road connects the parkway to Highway 95 with brief route that is nevertheless, one of the most scenic in Arizona. The western terminus of the street is the new parking lot in the Community Park. Essentially, it’s a drive to the beach.
Other improvements for the Community Park have been laid out in the development that was submitted to the Bureau of Land Management, from whom Section 12 is leased. Included in that plan are such amenities as pickleball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, more beach area, baseball fields, softball fields, basketball courts, public bike and running trails, and a riverwalk. The plan was the result of extensive public input from the community and will be a work in progress for the next several years.
The park improvements have already proven to be a big hit. Summer of 2018 was a record season for visitor attendance at the Community Park, with many weekends seeing more than 3000 people enjoying the Colorado River from their day camp areas on the new beaches. The City is preparing for even more in 2019 by increasing staffing levels for trash and restroom cleanup every weekend, and opening a new snack shack where beachgoers can purchase food, drinks, water toys, lifejackets, and more to help them maximize their fun in the sun.
Visit www.bullheadcity.com for more information about the future park development, or call 928-715-4979.

Local Author Publishes New Children’s Book
Written By Ashlyn Easley
“Both animals and people all have problems, and you should try to help them through those problems as best you can.” This is what author and Bullhead City local Doris A. Plough hopes readers take away from her new children’s book, My Dog Molly.
Doris’s path to author-ship started not, as one might expect, with a love of literature but with a love of art. After attending and graduating from an art school in Los Angeles, Doris was accepted into a special training class at Walt Disney Studios and was eventually mentored by Disney’s “Nine Old Men”, a group of the studio’s key founding animators. Doris went on to be an animator for several different studios in California, helping to animate classics such as He-Man and 101 Dalmatians.
After retiring from animation, Doris wrote her first children’s book, Aren’t We Cute?, in 2013 and moved to the Tri-State Area in 2015. She says, “I have always wanted to do children’s books. As an animator, I gravitate towards cartoons, and kids like cartoons, so it just made sense for me to write a children’s book.”
Doris published her second children’s book, My Dog Molly, this year as a special tribute to her own beloved pet of the same name: “Molly started having seizures when she was 12, and she continued to have seizures for two more years until she passed away. I knew I wanted to write something about her, and this book just came naturally to me. I really wanted it to be special, and I think it turned out to be,” Doris says. In addition to writing her books, Doris also uses her artistic talents to self-illustrate all of her works.
Doris urges people to “reach out to all animals in need” and continues to support various animal charities. She can usually be found painting and watching tennis as she brainstorms ideas for her next book.
You can purchase Doris’ books from amazon.com or from one of her local book signings.
